History: The AK-47 (in Russian: Автомат Калашникова, Avtomat Kalashnikova model 1947, literally "Kalachnikov's automatic", and not "automatic Kalashnikov"), often known as the Kalashnikov, is an assault rifle that was manufactured by the Soviet Mikhail Kalashnikov. This weapon is the first model of a family. Its very low cost, robustness, reliability and ease of maintenance make it extremely popular, particularly with guerrillas, and countries with little budgetary means to equip their infantry. It is also a weapon produced in many countries with an arms industry, particularly in former countries of the Soviet sphere of influence. Of all the firearms in the world, the Kalashnikov is one of the most reliable. Indeed, a weapon of this type does not jam: in water, in sand, in humid atmosphere, etc. This is why guerrillas and other members of revolutionary armed groups are equipped with them during their missions (desert, forest and other hostile places). Between 70 and 110 million copies were built and the production of the most recent models continues into the 21st century, making the AK-47 the most widespread rifle in the world.
