The Steyr AUG (in German: "Armee Universal Gewehr", universal military rifle) is a bullpup type Austrian assault rifle of 5.56 mm NATO caliber. It can switch between "single-shot" and "continuous burst" firing modes simply and quickly, which is an advantage for an assault rifle. The Steyr AUG is, along with the French FAMAS, one of the first bullpup type assault rifles to have been massively adopted by an armed force. This configuration allows it to remain compact without sacrificing barrel length. Handling and precision remain optimal. Another distinctive feature, the firing mode selector is incorporated into the trigger guard. Therefore, for the user to fire in bursts, they simply need to continuously press on the weapon's trigger guard, or in a semi-automatic mode by intermittent pressing.
